I found this book fascinating since I was raised in New Jersey and I could totally relate to the events in this books. I lived in the Newark, New Jersey as a young child and in Paterson, New Jersey as a teenager. It was clearly the “haves” versus the “have nots” at that time. The area in which you lived, the tracks divided the city and determined your social life. Although one was able to make friends from other areas, it was clear that the people who were really important in your life were from your socioeconomic group. As the book ended and the relationship ended it was clear to me there was no other choice.
